Youth camp Jordan

In July and August three partners invite young people to join a youth camp in Jordan: the Italian NGO "Non dalla Guerra", the German association Starkmacher and Caritas Jordan. Young people from Europe have the chance to learn about the life of refugees in a country that welcomed a huge number of refugees from the Middle East. The participants of the project meet refugee families from Siria and Iraque, organise leasure activities and simple learning sessions for children that visit already "summer school"-activities organised by the local Caritas centres. And they build relationships with the locals: All in all a very special training in intercultural dialogue.

Working together with local community

The project is possible because of the excellent cooperation with Caritas Jordan. They do already a lot for refugees within the whole country. They organise non-formal education activities, invite so small simple learning courses during summer time and give the chance to young project particiants to cooperate.

Apart from that participants will visit sirian and iraqui families who live already in quite settled conditions and get to know about their daily life.

Even meetings with the local community are planned. They also live in very simple and poor conditions and need encouragement and solidarity.

Sightseeing as economical support

Jordan people work and live for a big extend from tourism. This becomes more and more difficult because of the difficult political situation of the neighbour countries. To learn more about culture and history of the country but also to support the local economy during the project there will be visits and sightseeing trips to the archeological sites of Jerash and Petra as well as in Amman.

Group experience

A very important aspect of this project is the experience as a group. Participants live and see very moving situations, have a very special inside to the situation of refugees and can share their impressions within the group. Even experienced Caritas staff is at disposition for questions and explanations. This cultural exchange is an enrichment for both sides: European visitors ans locals.
